About

If you’re reading this, I assume it’s because you’ve either arrived here by accident, or you’re one of my parents. Either way, I love you.

I’m writer, I suppose, primarily interested in considering film, television, and culture through a critical lens. I have a creative writing MFA, though I’ve admittedly not put it to much use. I have also blogged in various places, specifically at Film Misery years ago, and occasionally on Letterboxd. Now I make empty promises to my ever-patient husband that I will promise to write. Let’s hope this makes things right. But if I’m ever lucky enough to be published elsewhere, I’ll be sure to crow about it here.

Insofar as I am guided by any writerly impulses, I have but two:

  1. I write so I can internalize how I feel about something. Otherwise, my short attention span will toss even the most indelible experience into the trash bin.
  2. As Dorothy Parker may or may not have said, depending who on the internet you ask: “I hate writing, but I love having written.” Whether Dorothy said it or not, no other sentence in the English language has ever made more sense to me.

I expect that, to the extent that this blog becomes anything, it will shape itself out naturally, and in due time. But for now I just need a repository to sharpen and clarify my thoughts, mostly on subjects that are interesting to me.

If any of this seems remotely interesting to you then I will be delighted and grateful, and I will urge you to come back. If you don’t, then it’s no problem; my feelings won’t be hurt. Because if there’s anything more important to me than validation, it’s convincing others I don’t need their validation.
